The round five solar PV IPPs took the total capacity of publicly tendered renewable energy projects in Saudi Arabia to over 10,300MW. Solar PV IPPs account for 79%, or about 8,100MW, of the total capacity. Four wind IPPs account for the remaining capacity. SPPC is procuring 30% of the kingdom's target renewable energy installed capacity by 2030.
The company stated that investments in the four projects amount to around SAR 8 billion ($ 2.13 billion). The Principal Buyer launched the Request for Proposals (RFP) for projects with a total capacity of 3,700 megawatts on February 8, including: - Al-Sadawi Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Project with a capacity of 2,000 megawatts.
The tendered PV plants include the 2 GW (AC) Al Sadawi plant in eastern Saudi Arabia, the 1 GW (AC) Al Masa'a project in northern Hail province, the 400 MW (AC) Al Henakiyah 2 plant in western Madinah province, and the 300 MW (AC) Rabigh 2 array in western Makkah province.
